Dry, misty weather set the scene as Debbie Kelly led fifteen walkers on a 10.5‑mile route beginning at Brun Clough Reservoir. From the reservoir, we followed the Pennine Way across Millstone Edge before branching off to join the old Pack Horse route and descended Willykay Clough to Easter Gate.
After crossing the Pack Horse bridge, the group continued alongside the River Colne to the visitor centre at Tunnel End, Marsden. From Marsden, we picked up the Huddersfield Narrow Canal towpath, then walked through town, where some walkers climbed a long flight of steps to reach the Butterley Reservoir dam wall, while a few avoided the steps by walking up the road, where we all paused for lunch.
Refreshed, we skirted the edge of the reservoir before tackling the steep, rocky ascent of Blakely Clough, rewarded with expansive views back across the valley. The route then rejoined the Pennine Way, passing Black Moss Reservoir and leading us back to our starting point.
