A large group of 19 walkers turned up at Nuttall Park in Ramsbottom for a 9.5-mile walk visiting several sites of historical interest including, the remains of the long-abandoned mills in the Cheesden Valley. From Nuttall Park, we first went to Summerseat stopping, for photographs in front of Brooksbottom Mill (now residential apartments) before crossing the bridge, where on Boxing Day in 2015, The Waterside pub collapsed into the River Irwell. We then continued across The East Lancashire Railway to Baldingstone, then Birtle and Scotland Lane for the lunch stop. After the lunch break, we descended into Deeply Vale, stopping to inspect the now abandoned ruins of the mills, before continuing in rainy conditions to Buckhurst, Grant's Tower and back to Ramsbottom.
