On a cold, misty and windy morning 16 walkers, including 4 new walkers to the club, set off from Castleshaw Reservoir on a 9 mile moderate walk. The walks started with a climb up to Castleshaw Roman Fort, a castellum in the Roman province of Britannia, before continuing on to Standedge which was very misty, spoiling what should have been great views. Fortunately, a following wind pushed us along the top of Standedge and down to Castleshaw Moor which displayed the remains of a recent moorland fire that had destroyed much of the grass and moss. We continued the walk in improving weather conditions along Moor Lane, Ox Hay Lane and Tame Lane into Delph. For the return leg, we walked alongside Hull Brook to Castleshaw Lower Reservoir and back to the carpark. After the walk, some in the group then went to The White Lion in Delph for drinks.
