The first walk of the new year set off in crisp, cold but beautifully sunny weather, with Jim Byrom leading a group of sixteen walkers on a scenic circular route following much of the Rossendale Way. Underfoot conditions were kind to us—firm, largely ice‑free, and ideal for steady winter walking.

Starting from Clough Head car park, we picked up the Rossendale Way towards Haslingden Grane, enjoying clear views over Calf Hey and Ogden reservoirs. The route then swept around Musbury and on to Tor End and Holden Wood, before looping back past Jamestone Quarry to our starting point.

A number of us rounded off the day with a well‑earned drink at the Robin Hood pub in Helmshore, a warm finish to a refreshing opening walk of the year.
