With Storm Ashley rapidly approaching, 12 walkers gathered at Nuttall Park in Ramsbottom for a 10 mile circular walk to Helmshore, taking in moorland scenery and the Irwell Valley. The first stop was the United Utilities construction site on Nuttall Lane, where a new stormwater storage facility was being installed. After inspecting the site, the group climbed up to Holcombe Village and walked along Moor Road to Helmshore in increasingly wet and windy conditions, stopping at Helmshore Textile Museum for drinks. They then continued to Irwell Vale Methodist Church for the lunch break. As the weather conditions improved, the group returned to Ramsbottom along the Helmshore to Stubbins cycle path. After the walk, some members of the group went to Casked pub for drinks.
